Murray, KY – With the shift to cleaner renewable sources of energy, Kentucky's position as a main provider of domestic energy may be threatened if local industries don't make the transition soon. Futurist Ivan Potter says that the value of water will drastically increase in coming decades, and that how soon Kentucky shifts to harnessing new energy sources will determine if the state can continue to be a leader in domestic energy sources.
"It would help Kentucky become an energy capital of America. That's because of so much access to fresh water as a source of new energy and as a source of development of off-the-grid thinking for totally new sustainability in our communities."
Kentucky also has other resources for energy apart from the traditional coal. Potter says that leadership in McCracken County is working to utilize its nuclear resources to provide a clean type of energy.
