Greenville, KY – Greenville Democrat Brent Yonts' proposal to give jurors information about prison costs during the sentencing phases of criminal trials could trigger debate. Yonts intends to push hard for legislation that he believes could significantly reduce prison expenses. His proposal would simply let jurors know how much it costs taxpayers to lock up a single prisoner. Legislators will have officially filed more than 400 bills at the start of the session at noon tomorrow. The Washington, D.C.-based Pew Center on the States has been reviewing Kentucky's prison costs and is expected to release a report recommending ways to save money on January 19.
