Springfield, IL – A plan that Illinois' majority Democrats promise will give voters full input in redrawing political district lines is heading to Governor Pat Quinn's desk. The Legislature must adopt a mechanism for redefining legislative and congressional boundaries based on shifting populations reflected in the 2010 Census. The House adopted the plan 67-46 yesterday. Republican critics feared there wouldn't be enough input from taxpayers, but Democratic Representative Barbara Flynn Currie says the four public hearings required in the legislation is a "floor" and she expects many more.
