Frankfort, KY – Kentucky corrections officials say the state's two- and three-year recidivism rates are the lowest in several years. Also, the state prison population is down by nearly 1,100 inmates from the start of 2010. The Corrections Department says the 24-month recidivism rate is at a 10-year low at almost 30%. The three-year recidivism rate is just over 40%, the lowest mark in nine years. Corrections Commissioner LaDonna Thompson says much of the credit goes to the work of probation and parole staff to reduce the return of technical parole violators. Thompson says the reduction may also be a result of courts using alternative sentencing.
