Frankfort, KY – Kentucky's Senate Republicans have followed through on a promise to file a bill aimed at cracking down on illegal immigrants in Kentucky on the first day of the 2011 legislative session. Republican state Senator John Schickel introduced the legislation Tuesday, and Senate President David Williams says the measure could be approved and sent to the House for consideration by week's end. The measure would allow police to arrest illegal immigrants on trespassing charges for setting foot in Kentucky. Critics claim the legislation is broader than Arizona's controversial law. Kentucky's measure would allow police to determine the immigration status of detainees and charge them with criminal trespass if found on public or private property in the state.
