Clarksville, TN – Clarksville's state legislators plan to request the state attorney general to issue an opinion on the legality of the city's Power Board hiring former Mayor Johnny Piper to oversee its cable provider arm CDE Lightband. State Senator Tim Barnes and Representatives Curtis Johnson and Joe Pitts say they will honor a request from new Mayor Kim McMillan to look into the legal dispute. Clarksville City Council members also plan to vote tomorrow on a resolution asking the Power Board to reconsider hiring Piper. The Clarksville Leaf-Chronicle reports the dispute stems from a city law requiring outgoing mayors to wait one year before taking on other department positions, but an attorney for the Power Board argues the cable provider isn't under the city's authority.
