Beshear Far Outpacing GOP Challengers

By AP

Frankfort, KY – Democratic Governor Steve Beshear has surpassed $3.5 million in fundraising, giving him a clear advantage over the Republicans wanting his job. Beshear's campaign said Wednesday that it raised more than $450,000 in the most recent quarter. His campaign had more than $2.6 million still on hand at the end of the year. Beshear, along with running mate Jerry Abramson, former Louisville mayor, has attracted nearly 5,600 donors from all 120 Kentucky counties.

Republican rival David Williams has reported raising more than $750,000 for his gubernatorial bid. Williams and Richie Farmer are running against Louisville businessman Phil Moffett and state Rep. Mike Harmon for the GOP nomination this spring. Moffett spokesman David Adams says Moffett's fundraising total will be much less than Williams' amount.
