Frankfort, KY – A bill offering financial rewards to Kentucky teachers guiding students through college-level math and science classes has cleared the Senate Education Committee. Teachers could receive up to $7,500 per year apiece if their students score well on Advanced Placement exams in math and science. A matching amount would be sent to schools to distribute to other math and science teachers.
Education Committee Chairman Ken Winters on Wednesday put the initial price tag for the state at $1.2 million, though the amount would grow if more schools offer Advanced Placement courses. The bill offers an incentive for AP math and science teachers to encourage their students to take the AP exams and score well. The rewards would be based on student performance on the exam.
