Frankfort, KY – Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear has chosen the mayor of Bowling Green to replace Secretary of State Trey Grayson, who's resigning.
Bowling Green Mayor Elaine Walker will take over the reins of the Secretary of State's office on February 1st, and serve for the remainder of the year. And she's already serving notice that she intends to run for a full term. "I've always been interested in looking at statewide office. "I was honored to receive the call from the governor and it solidified my decision to actually file, and to file very quickly, for this position," Walker said.
Secretary of State Trey Grayson, who's in the last year of his second term, is resigning at the end of the month to become the director of the Institute of Politics at Harvard University. Grayson earned his undergraduate degree from Harvard in 1994. The Institute of Politics was established in 1966 as a memorial to President John F. Kennedy.
