Clarksville, TN – Only a portion of Clarksville city employees would receive raises under a pay increase proposal. Council members heard the first reading yesterday of a measure to invest $2.7 million in salaries. The measure would bring 60 percent of employees up to mid-range salaries. In addition, Mayor Kim McMillan had proposed an across the board increase, but the council voted it down due to budget concerns. The city has pulled over five million dollars from reserve funds this fiscal year. City Information Officer Mark Hicks says workers have not received a pay raise since 2008. Hicks says the pay increase measure could receive further amendment during its second reading in February.
