Paducah, KY – Kentucky Congressman Ed Whitfield is among many legislators considering security issues following the shooting this weekend of Arizona Democrat Gabrielle Giffords. Whitfield District Representative Michael Pape says the Congressman has always tried to be accessible to his constituents.
"I think we're going to continue to do the things we've done in the past to ensure the security and protection of the audience and the Congressman and his staff, and I think this is a time for everyone to take a step back and look at what we do and how we do it, and try to come up with ways to be even safer about doing our jobs and we're going to do that."
Pape says Whitfield has had complaints in the past, but has not had any major threats. He says the Republican congressman plans to visit Kentucky in the coming weeks. Specifics dates have been set. This morning, Whitfield's colleague Senator Mitch McConnell was in Shelbyville to observe a moment of silence for those killed in the Arizona attack.
