Springfield, IL – The Illinois state senate voted today to abolish the death penalty. The bill has now moved onto Governor Pat Quinn. It is not clear whether Quinn will sign the bill into law. The Chicago Democrat supports the death penalty but has also continued the long-standing moratorium on executions in the state.
