Lexington, KY – Kentucky Educational Television has joined dozens of other public radio and television networks in an effort to get millions of Americans to take a stand against possible cuts in public broadcasting funding. KET is asking its viewers to sign a petition aimed at fighting any potential cuts at the federal level, which would most likely be to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. KET receives about 14% of its $23 million budget from the CPB, and spokesperson Tim Bischoff says any more cuts would be detrimental.
"On behalf of the millions of Kentuckians who depend on KET, both in classrooms all across Kentucky, teachers and students, as well as people who depend on KET at home for the programs they enjoy, we take threats to public broadcasting funding very seriously."
Most of KET's funding comes from the state government. Bischoff says Kentucky lawmakers are supportive of KET, but like any other state agency, the network has faced cuts.
