Murray, KY – The United States Enrichment Corporation is working to extend the operation of the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant after its power agreement with the Tennessee Valley Authority expires in May 2012. In addition to continuing operation, USEC is also examining potentially re-enriching portions of depleted uranium stored as waste at the Paducah plant. The plan would reduce cleanup costs for the Department of Energy and help maintain 1,200 jobs at the plant. USEC expects to reach a decision later this year.
