Frankfort, KY – Bowling Green Mayor Elaine Walker has qualified to seek a full term as Kentucky Secretary of State. Last week, Governor Beshear chose Walker to serve out the final year of Secretary of State Trey Grayson's second term. Grayson is resigning at the end of the month to assume a position at Harvard University. Walker filed her papers and paid the $500 qualifying fee to run as a Democrat in the May primary.
"It's exciting! It's of course the first time I've filed for statewide office. And the process is a little bit different. But the process of running for office is the same at any level. So I'm very excited about the next few months and of course interested to see whether or not I'll have primary opposition or whether it will be just in the general."
Walker filed her papers and paid the $500 filing fee to run in this year's Democratic primary. Also running for Secretary of State this year is Republican Bill Johnson of Elkton, who ran for U.S. Senate last year, but withdrew before the primary.
