Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University officials yesterday issued a "campus alert" after the school received a threatening letter from a former student. Campus officials allege Cliff Richard Guthrie penned the letter, which states he intends to commit a "heinous, premeditated, racial, and anti-American" crime. Guthrie spoke to a Clarksville Leaf-Chronicle reporter shortly after the warning's issue, saying he plans to burn his car and garbage bins on campus. Clarksville Police Spokesman Jim Knoll says he's unsure if or how criminal charges could be pursued against Guthrie because he threatened the school's campus and not any specific individual. Austin Peay has given Guthrie a criminal trespass warning, which bans him from campus property.
