Frankfort, KY – Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear agrees with those who say it's time to tone down the political rhetoric in the nation.
In the wake of the Tucson, Arizona, shootings that left six dead and Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords with a gunshot wound to the brain, national concerns are being raised about the potential effects of vitriolic political rhetoric. Gov. Beshear is among those calling for a calmer tone. "I think that some of rhetoric has tended to get out of hand in recent years and I think we would all be better off if we could conduct our affairs in a civil way. We can certainly disagree without being disagreeable."
Beshear called the shootings, "a blot on democracy." Asked whether he thinks guns should be banned from the State Capitol, Beshear said he feels comfortable and safe in the building and sees no reason to change the current "open carry" policy, which is controlled by the legislature.
