Clarksville, TN – Clarksville's City Council approved a $2.7 million plan to implement an independent pay study recommendation to bring city employee wages on par with national averages. City officials had planned to implement the wage increases in phases and had over a million dollars set aside for it. The Clarksville Leaf Chronicle reports surplus budgets for insurance and vacant city department positions will fund the initiative this year. The move concerns several city council members who say the extra money is a one-time thing and budgeting raises is recurring expense.
