Richmond, KY – Stumbo says he's a strong supporter of the right to bear arms. At the same time he says brandishing weapons in the halls of government sends the wrong message to visiting schoolchildren.
"What kind of chilling effect does that have upon children if you turn in the balcony and you see someone that has an open firearm, that has an open weapon? To me that's just not what we ought to be encouraging."
Stumbo says his office has studied the issue for about eight months. The Speaker hopes to address the issue with a resolution that balances individual rights and freedoms with common sense.
