Frankfort, KY – Congress will resume work tomorrow, and the main issue in the House will be the repeal of the health care overhaul law. The effort is led by GOP lawmakers who say the bill is too expensive and oppose the provision that requires Americans to have health insurance. Third District Democrat John Yarmuth says the repeal is a waste of time, because it's unlikely to pass the Senate. Further, he says the renewed debate over the law may backfire on the GOP, since individual provisions in the legislation are popular with many voters.
"They could put their 24-year-old on their insurance policy, whether it's because the lifetime limits they had on their policy are eliminated, or their annual limits or seniors getting a reduction in the cost of prescription medicine."
Yarmuth also cites a Congressional Budget Office report that says the repeal would cost money, rather than save it.
