Kemp Backs Renewing Inner-City Improvement Program

By Chris Taylor

Hopkinsville, KY – Hopkinsville Mayor Dan Kemp wants the city to renew an ordinance that will continue the Inner-City Residential Enterprise Zone program. The 6-year-old initiative works to spur improvements in the city's oldest residential neighborhoods and in the downtown business district. Kemp tells the Kentucky New Era the program costs a half-million dollars annually, and since inception has removed some 200 dilapidated homes and updated about a dozen downtown businesses. The ordinance is set to expire this summer.
