Hickory, KY – Kentucky State Police cruisers will be monitoring roads closely today, as icy conditions are likely to continue. KSP Trooper Dean Patterson says traffic problems this morning were not as bad as they were last night when snow began to fall. Patterson says the worst crashes were in Fulton County.
"About 6 and 8 this morning there was a period of time where we were working multiple crashes at a time. We had two or three semis that had slid, we had one that had jack-knifed that was partially blocking the highway. We have every law enforcement agency that covered that area busy. It was all we could do to make sure they weren't continuing to wreck."
In the Pennyrile counties, state troopers have been responding to calls since late yesterday. Trooper Stu Recke says they have not had reports of injuries yet. Main roads in western Kentucky are largely clear, though falling temperatures tonight could refreeze ice in some areas. Kentucky Highway crews are out treating roads today with salt to minimize travel problems.
