Murray, KY – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet urges motorists to avoid unnecessary travel this morning and be prepared for hazardous driving conditions across western Kentucky. Crews reported re-freezing of roadways overnight, particularly bridges and overpasses. Temperatures plunged into the low teens overnight, and temperatures below 20 degrees greatly diminish the ice-fighting properties of salt and chemicals. That's going to make this morning's commute especially hazardous. The cold has also severely limited the ability of highway crews to improve driving conditions until temperatures start to warm around noon. If you're getting out on the roads this morning, you should slow down and allow extra travel time.
