Smithland, KY – Frequent snowfall this winter has many area schools considering options to make-up instructional days. Most schools expect to use professional development days in March and April to prevent lengthening the school year into summer vacation. Livingston County Superintendent Darryl Chittenden says students have missed a total of six days so far, including today. Crittenden school officials will add some days to the end of the year. Other districts, like Caldwell, Fulton, and Hickman have extra days built in to the calendar, and haven't had to add any days so far. In Kentucky, schools must be in session 170 days a year.
