Washington D.C. – US Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell has filed legislation that he says will save taxpayers over $600 million in the next decade by ending partial federal funding for presidential campaigns. The Kentucky senator filed the legislation yesterday, as the House approved an identical measure. McConnell says Americans would rather reduce the deficit than pay for attack ads. His proposal faces an uncertain future in the Democrat-controlled Senate and opposition from the White House.
