Murray, KY – Some Kentucky public school systems have already been closed 20-plus days because of this winter's snowy weather, and school officials are looking into all kinds of ways to make up the instructional time. Some school systems are adding days to the end of the school year, while others are eliminating teacher in-service days. Other options on the table are adding hours to the school day, holding school on Saturdays and even taking away vacations. One eastern county opted to cancel spring break in an attempt to help make up some of their snow days. School officials point out there's still two months of winter left, and schools can also be affected by flu outbreaks and spring flooding. Mandatory state testing is scheduled statewide for the last two weeks in April.
