Mayfield, KY – An Islamic prayer space that was the subject of considerable controversy in Mayfield last year has closed. The American Civil Liberties Union successfully lobbied for a reversal after the city zoning board denied local resident Khader Ahmed's application for a conditional use permit. The city requires the permit for any building used for religious meetings. City Planner Brad Rodgers says he noticed the space was inactive in December. Rodgers says a tax service business is operating at the location. He says there have been no other applications for a conditional use permit for Islamic religious services.
