Murray, KY – Calloway County Judge Executive Larry Elkins and Murray Mayor Bill Wells highlighted accomplishments during the annual state of the community addresses this morning. Elkins focused on the county's low unemployment rate, and growth. He also highlighted projects for the coming year, including a new fire department training center and a large generator for the Weaks Community Center. This year, Calloway County will also go independent from the Purchase District Health Department this July.
"Once the withdrawal is complete, our local health department will be able to provide the services targeted to your needs."
Mayor Wells, who took office January 1, gave over most of his allotted time to the city's newly hired police and fire chief. Wells says it's important to hear the passion from city employees. Murray also received recognition for the fourth year as one of America's 100 Best Communities for young people.
