Frankfort, KY – Kentucky House Speaker Greg Stumbo is pleased with the early progress of the 2011 session, which resumed this week after a three-week recess. Before adjourning for the weekend, the House voted 94-0 to ban synthetic drugs called "bath salts," which can be legally purchased in smoke shops and convenience stores. Looking ahead, Stumbo says the legislative pace will pick up.
"You'll see obviously the Orders of the Day lengthening. Next week, some of the bills that the House is very interested in, such as the Drop Out bill, I wouldn't doubt would be moving forward by mid-week - by no later than mid-week."
There's been talk of shortening the 30-day session by six days to make up for last year's six day special session on the budget. House Speaker Greg Stumbo doesn't oppose the idea, floated by Senate President David Williams, but so far no adjustment to the official calendar has been made.
