Frankfort, KY – The 2011 session of the Kentucky General Assembly is entering its third week, with only 22 days remaining in the 30-day session. The Senate passed several bills back in January, but so far no bills have both House and Senate approval. House Speaker Greg Stumbo says to look for the pace to pick up this week.
"The Drop Out bill, I wouldn't doubt would be moving forward by mid-week - by no later than mid-week. The immigration bill - Rep. Damron's bill - I think will probably be moving by about the same time. So, start to see some House bills moving, just through the process."
A special session on the budget last year lasted six days, at a cost of around 384-thousand dollars. To refund taxpayers, Senate President David Williams wants to lop six days off the current session. Speaker Stumbo's not opposed to the idea, but so far no adjustment has been made to the official session calendar.
