Metropolis, IL – Negotiations resumed this morning between the United Steel Workers in Metropolis and Honeywell Corporation. The two sides last met for a brief discussion mid-January. Local 7-669 President Darrell Lillie says that conversation was the most open and honest corporation officials have been with plant workers.
"Really the first time the company would tell us the issues that they were really concerned with. So they kind of put them out there in front of us and we said there's some things that we can do to help off-set costs on certain issues."
Lillie is hopeful the union and Honeywell will make progress during the talks, which are scheduled to last three days. A statement from Honeywell officials was also hopeful. It said the company wants "a fair and equitable contract that reflects the economic situation of the facility." This is the seventh month of the USW lockout at the nuclear fuel plant.
