Murray, KY – Overnight plowing and treatment on most Kentucky roads wrapped up yesterday evening and workers were then able to patrol overnight for potential trouble spots. Kentucky Transportation Spokesman Keith Todd says most thoroughfares are down to wet pavement but there still remains a potential for slick patches of ice or snow.
"Not anything serious, but places where the wind was blowing earlier in the evening, it blew snow back out onto road surfaces that had been cleared," Todd says. "There are going to be some places out there that are still damp, that with the cold temperatures, there is a potential for refreezing and that's the reason we need everybody to slow down and continue to take it easy."
Todd says upcoming snow forecasts and predicted low temperatures of around 10 degrees are keeping the department on its toes.
"That gave everybody a sense of urgency last night, because they were trying to get all the routes plowed off to make sure that we're ready for whatever snow is coming at us on Wednesday and Thursday and then the extreme cold," explains Todd.
Todd says wear your seatbelt, turn your headlights on and watch out for black ice, especially on bridges and overpasses.
