Bill Seeks Finanical Punishment for Elder Abuse

By AP

Frankfort, KY – The Kentucky House has passed a bill aimed at preventing someone convicted of abusing or exploiting an elderly person from inheriting from the victim. The measure sailed through the House without debate Wednesday and now heads to the Senate. The bill would prevent anyone from inheriting from an elderly person they were convicted of abusing, neglecting or financially exploiting. If there are no other heirs, the inheritance would go into a trust fund used to support efforts to prevent elder abuse. It's part of a package of bills being considered by Kentucky lawmakers to protect the elderly from abuse.
