Bowling Green, KY – The conservative Bluegrass Institute for Public Policy is criticizing bills that would make some cold medications available only by prescription. The Bowling Green organization warns such legislation would diminish the freedoms of Kentuckians. The bills are intended to keep pseudoephedrine, a common ingredient in some cold and allergy medications that also is used to make methamphetamines, out of the hands of meth makers. Bluegrass Institute Vice President Jim Waters likens the proposals to using a sledgehammer to kill an ant. He says lawmakers should strengthen current protections to keep pseudoephedrine out of the hands meth makers, rather than punishing law-abiding citizens.
