Charter Revisited for Third Time

By Angela Hatton

Clarksville, TN – A Clarksville City Council committee will revisit the city charter in a meeting Tuesday. The Tennessee legislature has failed to approve revisions to the charter for the past two years. Lawmakers have had concerns about one component of the rewrite, which would give expanded power to the mayor's office. City Communications Director Mark Hicks says new mayor Kim McMillan formed a committee of council members to revisit the issue.

"My thought is that she going to let the committee do the work as they see fit. Then after they're finished, if she has any comments, I'm sure she'll add those when it comes time to vote on them."

Hicks says the committee will likely move quickly to make changes, and get the charter to the legislature before they adjoin their session in June.
