Afternoon Lull Could Make Severe Weather Possible

By Chris Taylor

Murray, KY – Two to four inches of rain have already fallen over Northwest and Middle Tennessee. Western Kentucky, along with Stewart and Montgomery County, Tennessee, remain under a flash flood watch, as well as an urban and small stream advisory, just one step under a flash flood warning. Meteorologist Beau Dodson is confident those advisory will turn into warnings before the day's end. However, he's more concerned about the chance for severe weather.

"It's a little iffy on the severe weather risk. Mainly because of the amount of clouds and the amount of ongoing precip. For a lot of severe weather, normally you see instability because the sun comes out, the atmosphere heats up," Dodson says. "Whether that happens later today or not is a little bit in question, but we do feel confident there'll be some tornadoes over Arkansas and Tennessee, and then whether or not that creeps into western Kentucky is the big question mark."

Dodson predicts a lull sometime this afternoon could bring in those instable conditions. Rain and thunderstorms are likely to follow. Stay tuned to WKMS as we continue to monitor this weather situation.
