Rep Flood Speaks on Informed Consent Abortion Bill

By Tony McVeigh

Frankfort, KY – A Kentucky House committee has rejected the latest attempt to win passage of an informed consent abortion bill. The Health and Welfare Committee voted 9-7 against the bill, which would require doctors to perform ultrasounds on women seeking abortions. Supporters said women could not be forced to view the images, but the argument didn't sway Lexington Rep. Kelly Flood.

"I vote no on behalf of the thousands of poor women and families in Kentucky whose access to family medical services would be undermined by the passage of this legislation. And I will remain an advocate, a vigilant one, for the poor and working poor in this state for decades. Thank you."

The committee vote likely signals the end of the road for the bill this session, which ends in nine days. The measure easily won Senate approval in January.
