Budget Cuts Force IL Rehab Site to Trim Services

By AP

Springfield, IL – A Carbondale, Illinois provider of substance-abuse rehab is slashing its treatment programs and clearing out dozens of teenagers early as it grapples with budget cuts. The Gateway Drug and Alcohol Rehab Centers says leaner finances mean it'll now offer treatment of up to 30 days and no longer provide 90- or 120-day programs. WSIL-TV reports Gateway will also discharge every client that arrived there before January 1st, meaning nearly 50 recovering teenagers at the Carbondale site will be pushed out by tomorrow. Gateway has eight other locations statewide. Director Steve Wierman says the budget cuts may mean fewer teens could recover from their addictions. Gateway officials say it's not immediately clear what will happen to the teenagers who were ordered by courts into rehab.
