Livingston County Sheriff Denies Wrongdoing in Audit

By Chris Taylor

Smithland, KY – Former Livingston County Sheriff Tommy Williams denies any misuse of public funds during any time of his 16 years in office. State Auditor Crit Luallen last week released results of a 2009 audit that alleges Williams' practiced an excessive mileage reimbursement policy. Williams tells the Paducah Sun the audit's findings are incorrect. He says that's why he opted not to comment during the audit's exit interview or sign a post-audit representation letter to confirm all records had been given auditors. Luallen contends Williams received almost $57,000 for use of his vehicles in 2009, but corresponding gas receipts only totaled about $26,000 leaving around a $32,000 difference. Luallen's office is referring the audit to federal and state revenue investigators.
