Nashville, TN – Recent heavy rain and snow, and more expected over the next two days have the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers carefully monitoring river and dam levels. Corps Water Management Section Chief Bob Sneed says snow melt from farther up the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers has already raised water levels in western Kentucky. Sneed says extra rainfall today and tomorrow could add to that.
"That's going to push the Ohio River up higher, and it's also going to push the flood crest out later. So instead of the river cresting at Cairo today, maybe it's 3, 4, 5 days from now."
Sneed says river and dam levels are higher than normal for this time of year, but they remain well below danger levels. Sneed doesn't expect any major flooding to occur along the Cumberland or Tennessee Rivers.
