Carbondale, IL – Southern Illinois University Carbondale is considering a tuition hike for its incoming freshmen next fall. The 9-percent increase would add about 656 dollars annually, raising a full year of tuition to nearly 8-thousand-dollars. SIU President Glenn Poshard (Psh-ard) blames the proposed raise on flat or reduced funding from the state and the potential for additional cuts. A new tuition plan is expected to come before the school's trustees in April.
