Murray, KY – 5th District Kentucky Congressman Hal Rogers says his district would feel the impact as much as any in the nation if budget cuts he has proposed become law. Rogers chairs the House appropriations and revenue committee. The congressman made his comments on C-Span's Newsmakers program. Roger's panel crafted the 100 billion dollars in spending reductions approved by the House.
"I have the second poorest district in America. Most all of the programs that we are cutting are in my district, and my people are having to sacrifice probably more than practically anyone else."
But, Rogers says he has spoken with his constituents about the cuts and they're willing to sacrifice. He says they realize the country is in a financial crisis.
