New Sirens to Go Up in Christian County

By Chris Taylor

Hopkinsville, KY – Christian County plans to install 13 new tornado-warning sirens by this summer, bringing its system's total to 22. County officials want to pay for the project with $190,000 in hazard mitigation funds from the state's Community Development Block Grant program. Where the new sirens will be installed has to be determined pending an environmental survey. Magistrate Mark Cansler tells the Kentucky New Era he hopes the county could eventually have an electronic warning system to contact residents through phone lines and internet connections, since the sirens are intended to warn people who are outdoors.
