Benton, IL – Honeywell Corporation must pay nearly 12 million dollars for knowingly storing hazardous waste without a permit at its Metropolis plant. Honeywell pled guilty to one felony count today in federal district court in Benton, Illinois. EPA agents searched the Metropolis facility in April 2009 and found nearly 7,500 illegally stored drums that contained radioactive and hazardous waste. EPA officials say the storage practices put employees at risk of exposure to the materials. Honeywell also was given five years of probation.
