Hopkinsville, KY – A Christian County Schools' spokesperson says proximity to Fort Campbell is one reason the district landed a drop-out prevention pilot program. Christian County is one of six districts in the country participating in Project PASS, designed by the U. S. Army and the Department of Education. Spokesperson Regan Huneycutt says the focus is seventh and eighth graders.

"Students who don't have maybe a solid understanding of what it is they want to do after high school or even maybe going into high school, who are looking for a little more guidance, maybe who need to learn a little more about self-discipline and leadership and those life-skills that we all need in order to be successful adults."

The pilot program started in January with sixty students enrolled. In addition to a core class, student will participate in ceremonial drills, physical fitness training, and community service. Huneycutt says the pilot is slated to last three years.
