Madisonville, KY – The Hopkins County Humane Society reduced its euthanasia rate by nearly 20 points last year. The shelter came under scrutiny two years ago when it posted a 79 percent euthanasia rate. The Madisonville Messenger reports the rate was 61 percent last year. Humane Society Board President Chris Thorowgood says the shelter has made several changes, including increasing the visibility of adoptable pets through internet postings and advertisement. Thorowgood expects the euthanasia rate will continue to drop.
