Gov. Beshear: People Should Be Outraged

By Tony McVeigh

Frankfort, KY – For the second time in ten months, Kentucky lawmakers are returning to Frankfort for a special session. Gov. Beshear ordered them back after they failed to balance the Medicaid budget in the 30-day regular session that ended last week.

"The people of this state ought to be outraged by this - outraged that I have to call a special session to get a job done that should have been done over the last two months."

Lawmakers are starting the session with no agreement on the governor's agenda, which also includes raising the state's drop out age. Even with prior agreement, it takes at least five days to steer legislation through the House and Senate. The session will cost taxpayers around $64,000 per day.
