Metropolis, IL – Honeywell Corporation will pay an almost $12 million fine after the company pleaded guilty Friday in federal court to storing hazardous waste without a proper permit at its Metropolis, Illinois facility. Honeywell was found to be storing drums of a hazardous by-product of its uranium hexafluoride conversion process, which creates fuel for uranium enrichment. As part of its settlement, Honeywell will serve a five-year probationary term and will implement a community service project in Metropolis, setting up eight household hazardous waste collection events over the next two years.
