Washington, D. C. – US Senator Mitch McConnell and Sixth District Congressman Ben Chandler are taking opposite approaches to combating high gasoline prices. McConnell continues to push the Obama Administration to drop its opposition to more domestic oil exploration, while Chandler is co-sponsoring a bill that would mete out stiff fines for oil companies caught price gouging.
"There's a five hundred million dollar penalty against oil companies who price gouge in a crisis a crisis as it is declared by the president, and it empowers state attorneys general, to make sure that they go after these people when they behave that way."
Chandler says he has not been in touch with Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway about the bill, but he says he's confident the fellow Democrat would support it.
