Census Shows a Diversifying Kentucky

By Associated Press

Frankfort, KY – New U.S. Census figures show Kentucky's Hispanic population has more than doubled and the state's total population has grown by almost 7.5% in the last decade. The data released Thursday also show that Kentucky's overall population has become more diverse. The number of Hispanics residing in Kentucky increased by 121% in the last 10 years. Kentucky's Asian population grew by 64.5% in the last decade. Louisville also recaptured its status as the city with the largest population, after losing that title to Lexington in the 2000 Census. The increase in Louisville's population is due in large part to the merger of the city and county governments.
